A small late 18th century mirror in the Rococo style with wide and deeply carved cushion frame highlighted with painted sections enclosing a characterful and later replaced plate

Venice in the late 18th century was one of the leading lights in the Rococo movement. Large and expressive architectural and interior design schemes were constructed consisting of deep and wildly elaborate carved brickwork, marble, plaster and woodwork. Ceilings would be moulded with cloudscapes and putti, walls would have vast carved organic decorate swathes and all of these motifs were reflected in the furniture and fittings of the period.

This mirror's organic frame doesn't conform to any regular stylistic traits, rather its charm lies in its lack of uniformity and asymmetry, highlighted by its scrolling curves and pastel painted highlights
