'Marie-Louise' Oak Cricket Table by Jacques Emile Ruhlmann

by Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann
£38,000

A "Marie-Louise" (rustic model variation) cerused oak table designed by Jacques Emile Ruhlmann for his home in France.

The table is part of Ruhlmann's personal furniture for his country house L'Herbage, which then passed into the ownership of the Berger family. The country style aesthetic is very much in contrast to the high 'Art Déco' and 'Paquebot style' of his professional output.

M. Berger, the grandfather to Alexander Berger, was one of Ruhlmann's principal suppliers of high-quality wood. Ruhlmann was famous for using incredibly rare, luxurious, and exotic woods (such as Macassar ebony, amaranth, and amboyna) and the senior M. Berger was a vital partner in bringing Ruhlmann's iconic furniture pieces to life. As a result of this close working relationship the Berger family has retained many highly valuable pieces from the designer.
