It was his work for the Danish Fiberglass industry from 1953 onwards that cemented Kofod-Larsen in 20th Century Design lore and probably formed the distinctive shape of Sälen Chair's enclosed seat. Larsen was tasked with manufacturing a chair as a single heat-hardened polyester piece (at the time a very new man-made technology). This would lead to him becoming obsessed with different seating positions and the shells and support they offered the sitter.

This obsession translated into the incredibly comfortable and ergonomic chairs we see today, characterised by their pleasing, flowing lines. It is also his choice of luxuriously exotic woods and rich leathers that have meant his works have held lasting appeal
