Early 18th Century cross-banded Laburnum framed mirror with original shaped and bevelled plate in two sections, the top section with etched floral motif

Possibly Scottish, circa 1710

Laburnum has historically been used for cabinetmaking and inlay, as well as for musical instruments. In addition to such wind instruments as recorders and flutes, it was a popular wood for the Great Highland Bagpipe, before taste turned to imported dense tropical hardwoods
