Set of Three Dora 'Moon Rock' Lamps by André Cazenave

by André Cazenave
£8,500

Molded fiberglass shell coated with polyester resin and fine marble dust
Produced by Atelier A, France, circa 1970

Known as 'Pietre Luminous' (luminous stones) Cazenave created the lamp during the height of the global space race, releasing it the same year Man first walked on the moon in 1969. While other 'Space Age' designers were leaning into sleek plastics and the bright neons of Modernity, Cazenave took a completely different approach. Instead of mimicking a rocket ship or UFO, he designed a piece that captured the mystery of celestial geology in homage to Nature. Unlit, it resembles a smooth river stone or lunar crust; when switched on, it transforms into a radiant, glowing orb that mimicked the soft, golden light of the moon.
