Tias Eckhoff (1926-2016)
Son of a shipmaster, Tias Eckhoff was born in Vestre Slidre, Norway, in 1926. He is now best known for his ceramics and flatware, including the eponymous range of stainless steel cutlery with handles of palisander wood, and the Cypress range for Georg Jensen. Having studied as a potter at the Norwegian State School of Arts and Crafts from 1945-1949, he went on to become head designer at Porsgrund Porcelain in 1952. His work there won him the Lunning Prize a year later.
