The distinctive aesthetic is reminiscnet of late Belgian Art Nouveau and reminiscent of Serrurier-Bovy's industrial-modern phase, particularly the use of metal strap-work and the quintessential 'Auriol' font for the clock numerals.
The Movement is by S. Marti, a renowned clockmaker in Paris in the second half of the 1800s. Samuel Marti established his business in 1841 in Montbéliard, in Doubs, a department in northeast France that was the birthplace of many of the most prestigious clockmakers. This particular movement has a countwheel strike system and a platform escapement consistent with high end Art nouveau production.
