In May Rose Uniacke joined up with London Craft Week to demonstrate our celebration of craftsmanship and traditional carpentry skills with the launch of Rose Uniacke’s take on the classic Chinese Chequers Board Game, a modern and simplified variation of the strategy board game Halma.  It is unclear where the game was originally invented, but in 1893, England Spears & Co. were producing the now infamous Halma games.

Visitors to the shop watched our cabinet maker demonstrate the making of the game and played their own Chinese Chequers matches, whilst being given the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets in store to win one of the boards in aid of the NSPCC Childline Service.  The lucky winner very generously then donated the board back to be sold with the proceeds being added to the money raised on the day.
