Biography
The Glaswegian Christopher Dresser was a groundbreaking designer and theorist. His is a name synonymous to the Aesthetic Movement and the so-called Anglo-Japanese style, both of which he helped nurture and develop. His oeuvre consists of a series of publications, from The Art of Decorative Design (1862) to the foundational Japan: Its Architecture, Art, and Art Manufactures (1882) - a book that helped spread the Japonisme of the late 19th century - as well as a mass of designs, from wallpapers to functional domestic objects
