The PH series claimed instant success and was sold and used all over the world, including the renowned Bauhaus Dessau building. Henningsen saw electrical light as a vehicle to 'enlighten' the masses by improving their home and work environments, hence the multiple concentric shades designed to emit only reflected light by obscuring the light source, and thus eliminating visual glare.
