Northern France, circa 1890

The northern town of Arras was famous for its iron foundries, which produced this iconic style of outdoor furniture up until the Second World War. A unique method of extrusion was used, know as 'demi-tube,' which gave the iron a rounded finish. This allowed surface water to drain and prevented rust. It also made for a much more comfortable seat, with no angular sharp edges.
