Kotaro Ono
Biography
Originally born in brazil in 1953 and studying law in Tokyo, ?no pursued a career as Japanese ceramist first as a student in Tajimi and then at Ceramica de Moncloa in Madrid. His international background prompted him to settle in Hokkaido, away from any of the celebrated traditional Japanese pottery- making centers like Tajimi. Specializing in celadon glazing on porcelain, he glazes mainly with seihakuji (bluish-white celadon) and to a lesser degree with ?ji, or yellow celadon. His works in porcelain are known for their undulating, linear, carved surface patterning (shinogi-de) that evokes the softness typically associated with stoneware. His works have been exhibited in Japan and internationally. ?no's work can be found in several museums in Japan and worldwide.
