Known as the 'the merchant of the princes' Alponse Giroux was an important Parisian manufacturer of luxury furniture and accessories, whose lavish creations were intended originally for an aristocratic and then a bourgeois clientele.
Stylistically, the mirror appears to look towards the Victorian 'Queen Anne Revival,' incorporating elements of the French Renaissance Revival, very much a fashionable response to the prevalent Second Empire aesthetic in France
