Sometimes called Sun-kissed Modernism, Audoux-Minnet's popularity coincided with the expansion of Post-War French Riviera tourism. People wanted to bring a piece of holiday back to their homes and, much like these 'bridge' chairs, with expressions of leisure time and comfortable prosperity. The use of nautical hemp rope was Audoux-Minnet's stylistic hallmark, using natural materials with modernist form, often drawn from vernacular furniture, yet always adapted to modern taste.
Bridge or gaming chairs are usually compact elbow chairs (exposed arms) with a much smaller footprint than a standard living room armchair, usually being a set of four.
